Springing Into Action
Dear Friend,
What a week and what a Friday! The Capital Stonewall Democrats celebrated their 50th anniversary with LGBTQIIA+ heroes. I am so happy to have been part of the audience and to listen to award winners share their stories. We often hear that Stonewall was not a parade, it was a protest, and an ongoing, multi-day protest. Not just one singular moment, but many.
It frames the need for persistence and consistency–the need to not give up and continue until our voices are heard. Our leaders either decide to make us feel seen, heard, and valued, or we must demand it. I know I share that message on the campaign trail, because I believe that as a leader it is important to listen to every voice.
Last Sunday, the Ward 5 DC Dems held a forum and I was happy to be there. The questions we were asked ranged in topic from economic development and housing, to health and education. I especially liked the question on how to keep seniors engaged in the civic and legislative process. To me, part of the solution is to bring back advisory groups and ensure that the Commission on Aging and its Mini Commissions on Aging are being used to their full potential.
March 18 was a special day for two reasons. First, because it was the petition signature deadline for ballot access. Second, because it was the day our first official endorsement was announced! Jews United for Justice Campaign Fund announced their ranked endorsement of our campaign..
Now, with the weekend here, and the first official day of spring today, it sets in motion the next milestone we’re focused on: winning this election! Interested in helping us make this happen? Sign up to canvass, volunteer, help on a policy advisory group, and more here.
In these next few days, I will be out in the community meeting new faces. I hope I also see a few familiar ones and you stay connected these next couple of months. It’ll be more important than ever to know what we’re up to and how you can get involved. If we win, I know it will be together.
Here is how you can stay connected and get involved:
Saturday, March 21-29 > Sidewalk Palooza! Check out events citywide.
Thank you for your support! From the very start on November 4, you have all been on this journey with me. We’ve grown in number and I hope we can continue to climb to win this election on June 16.
